Commemorating our country’s 250th anniversary

When we think of the American Revolution, we often picture battles fought in distant fields or decisions made in Philadelphia’s grand halls. But here along the Raritan Bayshore, everyday citizens—farmers, mariners, and families—played a vital role in securing America’s independence.

Life along Raritan Bay demanded constant vigilance. From Keyport’s shore, residents could see British ships anchored just across the water, a daily reminder that the enemy was always near. Some joined the militia, others sought only to protect their families and farms, but all shared the burden of living on a contested frontier.

The Keyport Historical Society is honored to be a Proud RevolutionNJ Partner and join in the upcoming celebration to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.
